Elle se caractérise par un spectre très large incluant bactéries atypiques, rickettsies, chlamydiae et spirochètes. Sa biodisponibilité digestive est excellente, mais elle est diminuée en cas d’ingestion simultanée de sels de calcium, fer ou magnésium.
